US stocks, gold, and oil all fell on December 17; Japan approved a $90 billion stimulus package.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the trading session on December 17, the Dow Jones index decreased by 0.61% to 43,449.90 points. The S&P 500 index decreased by 0.39% to close at 6,050.61 points, while the Nasdaq Composite index also decreased by 0.32% to stop at 20,109.06 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this result, the Dow Jones index recorded 9 consecutive price declines in history, the first time since 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the same day, the Japanese Parliament approved a supplementary budget worth 13.9 trillion yen (equivalent to 90 billion USD) for the current fiscal year (ending March 2025). The goal of this budget package is to support economic stimulus to reduce inflationary pressures and carry out post-disaster reconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The precious metals market recorded a slight decline. Spot gold fell 0.3% to $2,644.84 an ounce, while gold futures also lost 0.3% to settle at $2,661.00 an ounce. The US dollar rose 0.1%, making gold more expensive for holders of other currencies. The yield on the 10-year US government bond hovered near a four-week high early in the session, ahead of the US Federal Reserve meeting, where it is expected to decide to cut interest rates by 0.25% on December 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other precious metals, silver futures for January 2025 fell 0.4% to close at $30.638 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, platinum futures for January 2025 rose slightly by 0.2% to $943.5 per troy ounce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
