By the end of the second quarter of 2024, the balance of deposits at 62 securities companies will reach VND94,100 billion (about USD4 billion). This figure will await disbursement in the coming time.
FiinTrade (stock data analysis platform) compiled financial reports from 62 securities companies (accounting for 99% of the market) showing that the deposit balance as of the end of the second quarter of 2024 reached VND 94,100 billion - down from about VND 100,000 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2024 but still higher than the record in the fourth quarter of 2021 of more than VND 92,000 billion.
In the second quarter of 2024, individual investors net bought VND39,600 billion on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HoSE), while outstanding margin lending increased by only VND22,600 billion.
The net buying portfolio of individual investors is mainly leading stocks with large capitalization such as: VHM, VRE, VIC (Vin Group family)...
Notably, according to FiinTrade, outstanding margin trading loans by the end of June 2024 reached a record high of nearly VND 218.9 trillion, an increase of 53.41% over the same period in 2023 and an increase of 11.51% over the end of the previous quarter.
The leverage ratio between margin/total capitalization increased to 9.4% at the end of Q2/2024, while in Q1/2024 it was 8.5%. In addition, the ratio of margin debt/average transaction value increased by 10.4 times but was still low compared to the period of vibrant liquidity (11-12.6 times).
The report also shows that there is still a lot of room for lending, as the margin debt/total equity ratio increased for the 6th consecutive quarter and reached 0.88 times at the end of the second quarter of 2024, significantly lower than the level of 1.2 times at the end of the first quarter of 2022.
In yesterday's trading session (July 22), market liquidity was positive with over VND24,000 billion. Notably, the self-trading of securities companies increased sharply compared to the selling volume. Specifically, they bought over VND1,500 billion while selling just over VND500 billion.
In this morning session (July 23), the market is fluctuating within a narrow range, increasing and decreasing alternately with VN-Index around 1,252-1,253 points and low liquidity.
