As of the end of June, domestic individual investors had more than 7.98 million securities accounts, equivalent to 81.3 million people.
According to data from the Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD), the number of domestic investor accounts increased by 106,580 accounts in June 2024, 25,000 accounts lower than the increase in the previous May.
In terms of structure, the number of additional securities accounts in June still mainly came from individual investors with 106,417 accounts. Meanwhile, the number of institutional investors increased by only 163 accounts.
Since the beginning of the year, the number of domestic investors' securities accounts has increased by more than 750,000 accounts. The total number of domestic investors' securities accounts by the end of May reached approximately 8 million accounts, the highest ever. Of which, individual investors have more than 7.98 million accounts, equivalent to 81.3 million people.
According to the newly approved Strategy for Stock Market Development to 2030, Vietnam aims to reach 9 million securities trading accounts of investors on the stock market by 2025 and 11 million accounts by 2030. In particular, the Government requires focusing on developing institutional investors, professional investors and attracting the participation of foreign investors.
The number of accounts increased slowly as the market faced many difficulties before the strong resistance level around 1,300 points. VN-Index closed last June with a decrease of 1.3%. The increase was mainly supported by domestic money flow while foreign investors continued to net sell relentlessly.
Last June, foreign investors continued to break records when they net sold nearly VND16,600 billion on HoSE alone. This trend continued in early July but with a slightly lighter intensity. Since the beginning of the year, foreign investors have net sold a total of VND54,000 billion (USD2 billion) on HoSE.
Foreign investors continued to net sell, but the number of foreign investor accounts in Vietnam continued to increase month by month. Specifically, the number of accounts increased by 185 units in June, lower than the increase of 210 accounts in May, of which individuals increased by 168 accounts and organizations increased by 17 accounts. The total number of foreign investor accounts currently reaches 46,532.
